There’s plenty of MSD information
Yet injuries keep happening

Why MSD Prevention Fails

Hazard reduction and supportive equipment are important pieces of MSD prevention.

But these fail to address a key piece of injury prevention: Worker Movements & Habits.

If a worker slouches in a regular chair, they will slouch in an ergonomic chair.

Consider the main causes of MSDs:

  • Exertion  (lifting, carrying, push/pull ect.)

  • Poor work postures  (slouching, overhead ect.)

  • Repetitive movement  (reaching, twisting ect.)

These are all due to HOW workers use their bodies.

And this is why training workers HOW to move safely is an essential

(and often overlooked) part of prevention.

But Many Workers Receive MSD Training...

HOW we train workers is ineffective.

We remember:
10% of what we read
20% of what we hear
30% of what we see
80% - 90% of what we do & experience

Active Learning 5.png

When teaching workers critical injury-prevention skills like:

  • Proper work postures

  • Safe lifting & handling techniques

  • How to avoid repetitive movement injuries

  • How to utilize ergonomic and safety equipment

It needs to be interactive and engaging if we expect workers to learn.

Most MSD training is passive - and forgettable

It checks the compliance box, but it doesn’t change the MSDs
